The Associate of Arts in Military History is now offered to
better suit professional aspirations and interests of our
students. The new degree ensures that students will learn
about warfare from ancient times to the present and the patterns
of western ways of war. Students in this program are exposed
to how war fighting and foreign policy are related as well
as military service histories. Students graduating from this
program may apply this degree toward the completion of requirements
for the Bachelor of Arts in Military History or related degree.
In addition to the institutional and general education level
learning objectives, the Associate of Arts in Military History
also seeks the following specific learning outcomes of its
graduates. With reference to each of the respective areas
of history, graduates in this degree program will be able
to:
- Identify the changing patterns of warfare within Western
civilization including analyses of principal military thinkers
and the evolving relationship among Western societies, warfare,
and their military institutions.
- Identify the fundamental and underlying reasons why America
is a target for terrorists and compare and contrast various
international terrorist groups and their respective ideologies.
- Compare warfighting during ancient times through to the
beginning of the 17th century to the present with emphasis
on technological advances in the military arts and sciences
and their short-term and long-term effects on strategy and
tactics.
- Examine the American military institution from the colonial
period to the current environment in the 21st century.
- Examine the historical context of American Foreign Policy
from the entry of the United States onto the world scene
at the turn of the 20th century.
Requirements
Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED to apply.
