Master of Science in Education with concentration in elementary literacy
Master of Science in Education with concentration in middle/secondary literacy

The Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) degree with a concentration in literacy was designed by Dominican University, in cooperation with SkyLight, to focus the professional growth of educators in an area that is crucial to student achievement: literacy and reading. With a concentration in elementary or middle/secondary literacy, this program can give your career the boost it needs by helping you cultivate your reading and literacy expertise. The M.S.Ed. degree program combines the latest on instructional strategies with the most effective tools in quality distance learning and is designed to meet the demands and needs of educators by linking theory to best practices in the classroom. The impact is immediate, both for you and the achievement of your students.

The M.S.Ed. degree program employs an interactive mix of best practice strategy videos and Web-based interaction to deliver a vibrant learning experience to you in your home. The user-friendly Blackboard platform is enhanced by Visibility?, a video feature that brings teaching strategies to life. You'll have the opportunity to observe and discuss teaching strategies with ease right from your living room. All you need is access to the Internet and a DVD player or VCR.

The M.S.Ed. degree program with a concentration in literacy is a 32-credit-hour sequential curriculum that can be completed in as little as 18 months. The maximum time allowed to complete this program is five years. Each school year term is 14 weeks in length and is comprised of two courses that run simultaneously.

The M.S.Ed. degree program is designed to be taken over five terms. Two courses, each designed as a three-semester-hour graduate credit course, comprise each term. Course concepts are reinforced by combining peer interaction, best practice strategy videos and active applications in a problem-based inquiry framework. The latest advances in distance education technology are used to create a productive, rigorous and enriching educational experience for each participant.

Dominican University's M.S.Ed. degree program with a concentration in literacy addresses the five core propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). All of the reading/literacy courses in this program are aligned with the International Reading Association's standards for reading professionals.

Dominican University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Illinois State Board of Education.

Dominican University's M.S.Ed. degree program is ready to start when you are with new sections starting each January and September.
