The Master of Education (M.Ed) program is suited to Learners
who want to combine a strong understanding of current theory
and practice in education and/or organizational leadership
with their personal needs and career focus. The program also
provides Learners with the foundational knowledge and skills
necessary for doctoral level study. Curricula reflecting the
preparation guidelines of national learned societies and groups
are designed to provide Learners with an opportunity to select
electives or a specialization and focus their studies on courses
that meet their individual needs.
The specialization in Teacher Leadership (TL) prepares Learners
with a knowledge base, skill set, and competencies necessary
to assume diverse leadership roles in the educational enterprise.
Teacher Leadership is about energizing and mobilizing the
"sleeping giant" – the untapped attributes
and contributions of teachers to strengthen student performance
and increase student achievement.
Teacher Leadership offers Learners the opportunity to develop
their understanding of teaching and learning; to augment their
understanding of school culture; to challenge the barriers
to school reform and change; to build collaborative coalitions,
and to create new system paradigms. Teacher Leadership is
geared to Learners who wish to extend their professional influence
beyond their classrooms without leaving the teaching profession.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, from an accredited
or approved institution. The equivalent to a Bachelor’s
degree is 120 semester credits of college level coursework,
including a minimum of English composition I and II and a
college-level math course.
