Physical Therapy Assistants are a fast growing career. Many
occupations in the world today involve repetitive motions
which cause injuries over time that require physical therapy.
The elderly population is rising and it also causes a spike
in the needs of physical therapy. With this need of physical
therapy there is also an ever present need for physical therapy
assistants. The following are reasons to consider becoming
a Physical Therapy Assistant.
- Working as a PTA allows you to see how the body works.
You learn how muscles, bones and joints all work together.
- You will always have a varied job. The patients will change
and each new patient has a different injury and requires
a different approach.
- You will always be doing different tasks. You may be helping
with the patients care or you may be doing other prep work
or clerical work.
- While your job will sometimes be hard on the patients
it will make them feel better in the long run because you
are helping them heal.
- You will be teaching patients how to maintain healing
at home. The exercises taught in physical therapy will help
patients manage their symptoms at home.
- Much of the time you will be on your feet and using your
arms which will help keep you physically fit.
- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics between the
years 2006-2016 jobs are expected to grow by 20% which is
faster than average for all occupations.
- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the median
income in 2006 was $41,360.
- There are many places for you to work. Such places include
medical clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, skilled nursing
facilities, rehab facilities, physical therapy offices and
other such places.
- While training and licensure varies by state generally
you just need an associate’s degree to perform this
job accurately. Most of the training you need can be done
at a career college.
Physical Therapy Assistant's are a hot commodity. With the
exception of the initial evaluation a PTA can perform much
of the needed treatment. This allows facilities to run cost
effective businesses. This also makes a Physical Therapy Assistant
into a position that is constantly in demand. Consider the
above reasons when determining whether to study for it. To
