Buyer Beware |
| Curriculum & Instruction Ph.D |
| I have only been in the Ph.d program since February and overall the program
itself is fine; but I was given incorrect information concerning tuition
when I began Capella. Capella cost about 20,000 a year which is very
expensive, but when someone gives you incorrect information and then you
have to pay an extra almost two thousand on top of the yearly fee it is
even more expensive. I contacted the enrollment department as soon as I
realize the problem and spoke to a manager who had a matter of fact and a
oh well attitude about the situation; and who was suppose to get back to me
and I have yet...Read Full Review |

Horrible |
| Organization and Management PhD |
| Capella is great for the first two or so years of your program. Once you
get your courses done and entre the Comp Exams...the "stuff" hits the fan,
you become nobody and this is just if you make it out alive (or with a
degree). They are a for profit school this is apparent with their 100%
acceptance rate and 20% retention rate. Once they get your money or once
your sucked in far enough that you would be crazy to try and transfer they
start treating you like doggy do-do.
SOBT is the worst. It is Capella's policy to not discuss your comp exam
experience with anyone, espeically other learners. ...Read Full Review |

Have to be motivated |
| M.S. in Counseling |
| I have been in the M.S. in Counseling program since May of 2010. I have
completed 3 courses in my program with a GPA of 3.667 cumulative. I have
found Capella to be a mixed bag. Of course, when you call regarding
applying for admission, Capella is painted as the best Graduate program you
can possibly attend by the admissions counselors. The reason for this is
Capella is a FOR PROFIT university, like any other business, their number
one priority is to make money. No students = no money coming in. With that
said, I am not implying that Capella is easy or that the programs they
offer are not comp...Read Full Review |

Yes for the MSIT program |
| Masters in Information Technology |
| I completed a Masters in Information Technology in the summer of 2007 and
actually enjoyed it. For all of you who are used to the traditional Brick
and Motor University, get ready for a change. As in everything, there are
some pros and cons to this university.
(PROS) I found no problems with the faculty and administrative staff. Just
about every professor was accommodating and attentive when contacted for
clarity on my assignments. Administrative staff was extremely helpful with
the enrollment and financial process. I am former military member and used
my GI Bill. So for those of you in the...Read Full Review |

Stimulating experience |
| Masters in human services |
| I cannot complain about anything at Capella. I have 3 courses left to
complete my Master's in Human Services and I feel it has "stretched" me
intellectually and academically. I have had so much compelling dialogue
with my classmates in the online courseroom. I have never had an issue with
advisors, professors or financial aid. All of my instructors expect the
highest level of accountability. Participation is 50% of the final
grade...sometimes I did not even go to my classes as an undergraduate yet
still managed to get mostly A's. For reference, I earned my Bachelor's from
a Tier 1 brick and mo...Read Full Review |

No good instructors |
| Bachelors in Information Technology |
| Working on a Bachelor's in IT with Capella, and I've been there for almost
3 years now.
Pros:
Flexible schedule allows me to work on my schoolwork when I have time to do
so. I have found most of the course content to be informative, and at least
in the IT courses, it involved things that I actually wanted to learn.
Cons:
I have run into several courses that were just plain poorly designed. For
example, the assignment for a particular week may have nothing at all to do
with that week's reading assignment, leaving all of the students confused
and asking for clarification.
In my expe...Read Full Review |

PhD Program... |
| Psychology |
| I was enrolled in the PhD program at Capella; was being the key word here.
I did my homework and had an excellent experience from day ONE; staff,
instructors and administrators were very responsive and helpful. The
dissertation process was very rigorous and expected excellence; however, my
experience was not so positive.
Somewhere in the time I attended things changed...when I matriculated to
the dissertation process, I didn't seem as important as I was the initial
four years I attended. The lack of urgency by all stakeholders in terms of
response time and support during the process lacked...Read Full Review |

Fantastic PhD expereince |
| PhD - Education (T&PI) |
| This program was incredibly rigorous and challenging and I know will make
me completely proud to hold the degree (I am just now starting the
dissertation). While I wish I could have paid tuition by credit r class
rather than by quarter (which varies by School at Capella), I have found it
a meaningful learning experience and one that I woudl recommend to anyone.
I am currently teaching an online class (at a different University) for the
first time and I can't even begin to describe the sheer number and types of
technical difficulties my students have experienced -- not at all like the
high-func...Read Full Review |

Capella-a scam |
| phd psychology |
| For those of you who are going to Capella for the doctorate programs or are
in the planning stage - beware!
Capella is a rip-off! I completed my phd program while I lived in Florida
and then relocated here in Kansas.
When I attempted to apply for licensure here in Kansas, imagine my surprise
when I was informed that Kansas
does not recognize Capella University due to their residency requirement
(no face to face with your
professor)!
I then contacted Florida's Board and they informed me of the same thing! As
a matter of fact they went so far
as to tell me that no state recognizes th...Read Full Review |

Ok |
| Education |
| Well, I am on the back-end of an EdS degree and I have to say, overall, it
has been a decent experience. I want to warn anyone who is NOT directly
related to the educational field, this is NOT the place to attend. I am a
curriculum developer for the military and I enrolled in the Curriculum and
Instruction program. Well, my friends, apples and oranges. I have spent a
great deal of time trying to determine what the heck was expected of me. In
the military arena, we don’t have state mandates, we don’t use the same
types of lesson planning and mapping processes and I don’t have the
flexibility to...Read Full Review |

So far so good |
| MBA |
| I'm a student, albeit new, but nevertheless my experience hasn't been bad
at all. My financial aid was approved and everything went smoothly in that
regard. Having a BA from a traditional school, I know what is expected of
me concerning assignments, financial aid, counselors, etc. I am not
expecting my counselors to hold my hand through this process just as I
didn't expect that in undergrad while I resided on campus.
What I can tell anyone looking into going here is that there are a lot of
assignments. I'm guessing it's because it's a non-traditional program they
have to track students' pro...Read Full Review |

Pretty good |
| PhD in Business and Technology |
| I am a Capella PhD student in the Business and Technology School. I have
had good ... mostly good but some bad experiences at the University. It is
expensive and they could do some things to make their entrance requirements
higher to fall more in line with some of the brick and mortar universities.
Mostly however, my experiences have been good. I've found that the
instructors have all been pretty good. They seem to care ... more than I
do. I think I took one course where I thought that the instructor ... well
it seemed as if that instructor had too many courses or just too much to
do.
Also ...Read Full Review |

| PhD in Education |
| I am currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Education,
Postsecondary/Adult Ed. emphasis. I think their best features are the
support staff and advisors, the residencies (those are a blast), and the
highly skilled and trained faculty. I have been in the program since March,
and they do transfer a fair amount of MA or MS credits, as long as it was
earned from a credible institution and as long as the GPA earned was fairly
high. Courses run 10 weeks long (it used to be 12), and can be very
rigorous, especially if the courses are part of your core. Electives aren't
as challenging. I have learn...Read Full Review |

Capella....what? |
| PhD education |
| I am a Capella Learner and want to be objective about the program, but I am
having difficulty as I have now been placed in a position that I am
wondering if this is the institution for me. I am in the military so this
proved to be a perfect fit or so I thought. My misery starts with the fact
that the technology will make you pull your hair out. Be prepared to have
to try to post continously more than once or just have the program lock up
before you can get your post in. This problem has been the nemesis for my
experience at Capella. I have submitted and resubmitted and resubmitted
postings onl...Read Full Review |

Rigorous but Flexible |
| MBA |
| Capella's MBA program was a great choice for me. Being a frequent traveler
in my job made it impossible to meet traditional classroom requirements,
but I found Capella's schedule, though rigorous, encompassed all the
flexibility I needed to complete a graduate degree.
I specifically enjoyed the variety of professors teaching the various
classes in the program, who came from top ranked universities across the
nation. I found their teaching styles to be stimulating and
thought-provoking - particularly the professor from Stanford.
The courses in the program that sealed my belief in Capella ...Read Full Review |

Capella PhD Student |
| PhD Information Security |
| I am currently a PhD student following the Information Security track. My
undergraduate work was completed at the State University of New York,
earning a BS in Computer Science (B.S.C.Sci) and a Master in Business
Administration (MBA), after doing some researching about various online
programs I choose Capella because they are accredited by The Higher
Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of
Colleges and Schools. The courses and professors are very flexible with the
students and that is one of the many pros I observe, yet the profit* aspect
is something worth loo...Read Full Review |

Positive and negative points |
| Master of Science in Human Services |
| I am in my second year at Capella pursuing a MS in Human Services. I have
found the program to be quite easy, which is cause for some concern.
Sometimes it seems a little too easy and I feel that I have received
outstanding grades for substandard work. As an undergrad at a regular
college, I struggled just to earn C's & B's. At Capella, I have a straight
A average, which is not something I am used to. Then again, maybe I am
overly critical of myself. Most of the instructors are excellent, although
I have encountered a few who were absent from the courseroom too much, as
in weeks would go by wi...Read Full Review |

Good and challenging |
| business |
| I believe Capella is one of the most challenging universities I have ever
attended. At times I feel like pulling out my hair while doing my
assignments or just quit the university. However, I try motivating myself
to get assignments in even though sometimes they were late. I feel
disappointed with some of the instructors (Like Wayland Seacrest).
Consequently, there are some good ones. I try to make the best out of all
classes and conduct researches online when I did not understand certain
terminologies used in the textbook or the course room. Online Students need
to understand that online degr...Read Full Review |
