I am in my last class before my dissertation process. All of my professors
have been experienced professionals in the course material that they teach,
and have been supportive, helpful, and available for interaction. The
professors have been the best part of the experience so far. I have also
received excellent support from the academic advising team, and financial
aid when I had a question.
The classroom work is demanding, anywhere from two to four written and
graded assignments a week with a fast pace moving through the quarter, 12
week schedule.
The syllabus for most courses is good, but there have been times where the
syllabus is old, or the assignment for the week doesn't make sense in that
it doesn't really match the reading. I think they need to review some of
the coursework.
Some of the download videos are ok, some are less than what one would
expect at the graduate level.
Walden recently changed their on-line technology from the eCollege system
to Blackboard, and I find it much more difficult to navigate than eCollege:
it is loaded with what appears to be useless elements, is confusing,
requires three steps to do what we could do in one with eCollege, and is
just plain annoying. I don't know what motivated the school to make this
change.
I have been working hard in the program since the beginning. Since I am
changing careers it is important that I do well and learn the information,
so I have been taking only one class at a time (am also working etc.).
I would recommend Walden based on the quality of the faculty, and the
comprehensive courses in the psychology program. On-line is a lot of work
since everything has to be written, and it all has to be error-free.
Whatever others say about the admission policy of Walden or other on-line
schools, whether or not students are admitted who are not qualified, it is
not as important as the ones who do well and graduate. You are responsible
for your own work and achievements.
