An associate of arts or
associate of science degree is generally a two-year degree
made up of three parts: general education requirements, major
requirements, and electives. It is made up of 60 credit hours,
which you can complete over two years - full-time or online.
In the past, it was necessary to attend a community college
or university in order to earn an accredited degree. Online
programs now make it possible to earn your Associate Degree,
allowing you to study anywhere and anytime you want, 24/7.
Once you earn your associates degree online, you typically
need another 2 years or 60 credit hours to earn a bachelor
degree.
You can earn your Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of
Science (A.S.) degree, and then, have the option of transferring
to a university to pursue a bachelor degree online or physically
attend the school.
Reason's to get an associate degree
A two-year associates degree at a local community college
is less expensive than a bachelors degree at many four-year
colleges. You can either start working after getting your
associates degree or transfer your credits to a four-year
college or university and pursue a bachelors degree.
If you're not sure what degree you want to pursue, taking
classes toward an associates degree can help you explore different
academic fields without spending as much time and money as
you would at a four-year college.
Students with an associates degree are generally able to
earn more money than students with only a high school diploma.
To enroll in an associate’s degree program, you have
to be a high school graduate or a holder of a General Education
Development (GED) certificate. Some schools also require applicants
to be at least 17 years of age.
Things to consider when selecting a college that
offers associate degrees
You'll want to look at the school's accreditation and what
courses and degree programs are offered. If you plan to transfer
to a four-year college or university, find out what the student
transfer rate is and whether the four-year schools you're
looking at accept transfer credits from that school. If you're
seeking an associates degree for career training, look at
the school's job placement rates. Continuing education is
just a step away and you'll drastically increase both your
career and income potential by earning an Associates Degree
online.
Associate’s degrees are available in a wide variety
of subjects, and for many students, are the first step towards
a bachelor’s or master’s degree in their decided
field of study. Popular programs are found in the following
subject areas: health, business, technology, criminal justice,
arts and humanities, and education. If you know what you want
to study, but aren’t sure what schools off that program,
this is perfect place to start your search.
