When you hear the word "counselor" or "counseling"
visions of the high school counselor's office might come to
mind. The school counselor was typically the person that provided
job and career advice, helped students through a traumatic incident
such as the death of a classmate or family member or who was
just there to help out with a problem with family, friends or
life in general should it arise.

Well, that is certainly one type of counselor, but there
are many more options out there when it comes to the sorts
of jobs and careers available to someone with a degree
in counseling. If you've got a knack for listening to
other people's problems, providing insight into potential
resolutions, and administering therapy for a variety of
issues that a person or family might be facing, then a
degree in counseling might be right for you. With degrees
geared toward marital counseling, couple and family counseling,
alcohol and drug counseling, clinical counseling, addiction,
professional, school, mental health, rehabilitation, and
even Christian and pastoral counseling and more, there
are any number of areas in which one might consider focusing
their counseling degree work to better help those in need.
Choosing an Online or Campus Based Counseling
Degree
Do you feel like you're just too overloaded with work or family
obligations right now to contemplate a counseling degree? Or
maybe you just don't think that your financial situation would
make going to school to get such a degree possible. Well, with
all the online options out there, it might not only be possible,
but an online degree option might in fact be a quite feasible
option.
A college campus degree can certainly be advantageous, but
such a situation just might not be a reasonable one in your
current situation. Finding care for children, being able to
break away from a full-time job to attend classes, making the
commute to and from a campus environment to sit in classes for
hours each day - or night - and similar scheduling or time constraint
issues could make a college degree from a brick-and-mortar institution
too difficult to achieve. However, whether you're in an urban
environment or rural, are caring for the kids at home or are
working a full-time job, or you're just looking for a degree
program or program specialty that isn't offered at a college
campus in your vicinity, an online degree program could make
fulfilling your degree requirements practical and able to be
fit to your current lifestyle or situation.
